@RichmondHS Brings #ZeroLitter To El Cerrito
Interns at Richmond High School focused their attention close to home—their classrooms. By conducting a waste audit, they soon realized that most of the “trash” consisted of plastic bottles, leftover food, juice boxes, straws and sporks; all readily recyclable or compostable.
This revelation inspired them to look for solutions that could help reduce waste. Working with school administrator and teachers, they’ve begun to set up recycling stations in classrooms across campus. With this success in hand, they’re partnering with like-minded organizations to raise awareness about sources of litter in their community. This past Earth Day, the interns partnered with Save the Bay to survey and collect cigarette butt litter at areas of concentration throughout El Cerrito. Follow their progress here.
